  2. I type something in Microsoft Word and after I type "space" or enter, it gets changed to something else.
This is because of the MS word's autocorrect feature. This feature makes First letter of every sentence capital irrespective of the font choosen.
So for devnagari typing, just disable it by unchecking options in Tools/Options Autocorrect menu of Word.
Different versions of MS Word may have this options menu at different locations, so please try searching Help on "How to disable Autocorrect function" in MS Word.

  3. I have problem typing \'k\' or \'f\'. How do I type half \'r\'? How do I type \'shree\'?
    For Half \'r\'
    Type %.

    %

You need to type x after you type \'k\' or \'f\' and \"matra\", \"ukar\",\"anuswar\", etc so that the alignment of those signs are proper. This is required due to the nature of these characters having the \"danda\" in the center unlike other characters.

    For \"Shree\"
    Type Ea`I

    Ea`I

For more details and other combinations, Kindly Click \"Keyboard Layout\" page at http://www.kiranfont.com/layout.asp and scroll down to see all combinations and examples.

  6. In Sanskrit there is a special letter "ka" with "la" underneath it. I did not find this character in the kiran fonts layout. Can you help me please?
The Letter you are referring to is called as "JODAKSHAR" or a conjuct character. In Simple terms it is a joint letter. The letter as you have described (special letter "ka" with "la" underneath it) is simply a way of writing the jodakshar. There are many such combinations used in old writing scripts of devanagari. Many commonly used combinations are also available in Kiran fonts in the extended chracter set. You can refer to the keyboard layout page for more information.

However, You can also express the same JODAKSHAR in newer simplified writing script and also in Kiran fonts, it is written as follows:
    iWlaYT

It is exactly same as the letter you are referring to.
As a rule of thumb, you can express any such combination by writing the lower letter to the right of the upper letter. The upper letter takes a half letter form so as to combine with the lower letter and form a JODAKSHAR.

At the same time, Kiran fonts do contain most commonly used JODAKSHARs and are available with Alt+nnnn key combination. Refer to Keyboard Layout Page or Document that you received with the fonts.

  7. My Laptop does not have Numric Keypad. How do I get the Alt + nnnn characters
In most laptops, there is a way to access Num pad keys generally indicated as blue or different color characters on regular keys towards right hand side of the keyboard.

Those keys can be accessed by a special function key generally labelled as "Fn".

So you can press and hold the Special Function and Alt key simultaneously and press the corresponding equivalent of 4 numeric keypad keys for digits to get the required characters.

Please note that the normal digits keys will not work with the Alt+key combination.

When you want to get the additional KF characters that are availabloe on Alt+nnnn format on laptop, you can access Numeric keypad on laptop using a special Fn key. See this video otherwise also you can get the character in MS word by choosing Insert/Symbol from the menu which shows all available characters in selected font

As an alternative, if you are using Microsoft word, click Insert/Symbol and choose the font you want to type in. All the characters are listed for the font. Choose the one you want and the characters will be inserted at the cursor location.

  10. How do I make the dot that goes under the letters ja (that makes the borrowed sound za). I use a laptop that does not have a numeric keyboard and the alt. fn. nnnn character don't work either.
The underneath DOT or Nukta is available at code 0222. In all possible cases, you should check your laptop manual that should provide information about how to access the numeric keypad buttons. However, if thats not possible, you'll have to rely on your word editor's capabilities.

    Watch this video http://www.youtube.com/

If you are using Microsoft Word, you can select 'Insert' Menu and choose 'Symbol', then select the font KF-Kiran or any other Kiran family font and scroll down to end. You'll find the nukta (dot) character in the last row. When you select the character, it should show you the Alt+nnnn code as shortcut key.

Click 'Insert' button to get the character into the document. You can then copy the character and place it after the ka, ja, fa or any other character that you want to describe using nukta.

Also, if you are using any other editor, you can also use "Character Map" (charmap.exe) for similar functionality.

Remember, there is a full stop character that looks similar to Nukta but full stop occupies its own space while nukta operates on the preceding character.
