VA takes care of my health needs, I also have Blue Cross/BLlue Shield and CHAMPVA for my wife and family.
CHAMPVA reguires me to use BC/BS first and then them.
should "I just drop my BC/BS and use CHAMPVA
ONLY ???
Having 2 health insurances is the worst of both worlds. A few years ago, I had BC/BS and my daughter got injured at the local high school. The school also had insurance. The school's insurance refused to pay until BC/BS paid. BC/BS had the same clause and wouldn't pay until the school's insurance paid. The bills mounted up and neither would pay first. It didn't take long before the hospital and the various doctors all started getting angry because they weren't getting paid. Luckily, my sister was with the state insurance review board. I'm not sure what she told them, but I got checks for the full amount from both. I cashed one, paid everyone and sent the other check to the insurance company of the check that I cashed, with instructions for them to sort it out between them. Total time wasted screwing around with letters, phone calls and billing service was 11 months.
