Message:   Freedom House; Janisett Rivero of the Directorio Democratico Cubano; Sebastian Arcos Cazabon of the Cuban Committee for Human Rights;Yosvani Oliva of the Free Cuba Foundation; and human rights activist Laida Carro.
Over the past seven years the Free Cuba Foundation has organized Jose Marti Lectures on his birthday, January 28, 1853. In 2000 FCF commemorated the birth of Jose Marti by organizing a symposium on racial issues in Cuba with the Association of People of African Ancestry and Culture. Omar Lopez Montenegro, of the Cuban Democratic Directorate issued the keynote speech on race. In1999 FCF commemorated the birth of Jose Marti by organizing a lecture by ex-political prisoner and author Ana Lazara Rodriguez at FIU. In 2004 FCF coordinator Neri Martinez gave a lecture that explored the philosophy of non-violence that animate both Dr. Oscar Elias Biscet and Oswaldo Payá Sardiñas subtitled "Brothers in Thought." Pedro Corzo made the keynote speech in 2005.
None of this would have been possible without the leadership and initiative of the following FCF members and others not listed: Sandy Acosta, Marco Alonso, Zuleyka Barrios, Gloria Bauta, Michel Betancourt, Jose Raul Carro, George Castellano, Helen Castro, Omar Clemente, Misael Curbelo,Rick De La Torre, Carlos Diaz, Katherine Garcia, Jose L. In politics you have your word and your friends; go back on either and its over. The Free Cuba Foundation has been blessed with great friends over the past decade: Holly Ackerman, Luis Aguilar Leon, Patricia Alvarez, Brent Barksdale, Jose Basulto, Rosa Berre, Morton Blackwell, Ricardo Bofill, Frank Calzon, Ana Carbonell, Santiago Cardenas Jr., Sebastian Arcos Cazabon, Laida Carro, Eudel Cepero, Kelly Chancy, Mario Chanes de Armas, Juan Clark, Angel Cuadra, Beverly Danielson,Charlie Davis, Lorenzo de Toro III, Anna Diaz-Balart, Mario Diaz-Balart, Isabel Estrada, Mickey Garrote, Orlando Gutierrez,Tanya Hargrove , David Landau, Christian Løvschall, Myles Kantor, Haydee Marin, Huber Matos, Ramon Mestre, Chuny Montaner, Omar Lopez Montenegro, Chad Morgan, Giani Pilo, Adolfo Rivero Caro, Janisset Rivero, Tomas Rodriguez, Carlos Salman, Ramon Saul Sanchez, Pedro Solares, Daisy Tong, Jorge Valls, Harry Wu, and our advisor Martin L. The past ten years have demonstrated that with sustained effort guided by principle and technical assistance one can accomplish anything. Everything that has been accomplished is because there has been a willingness to be open to new ideas while at the same time maintaining the core principles of the organization. We thank you for your support in this last decade and we will continue to dedicate ourselves to the struggle for freedom.
