Getting published

Hi,
I'm a published journalist and features writer of some years' standing, but have never attempted to have any of my short stories published.
A number of them, though mildly idiosyncratic, do fall into the genre of Horror and I would like advice on which commercial publishers might accept submissions from new authors.
I write regularly for the British national papers and also sub-edit an international monthly magazine, so my prose style is, one would hope, competent at least.
Any advice would be very welcome.
Thanks,
David Blay.

Re: Getting published

Dan's right. Go through Ralan. You have two choices then. Either aim for the Pro market and be prepared to get rejections (but with the knowledge that you might make a substantial sale) or start off with the 'for the love of' publications and work your way up (not that there's any guarantee of them taking your work either...) I've always liked the advice that suggests starting with the 'Pro' markets and working your way back towards 'for the love of' with each rejection. The only downside to this is it could take you several years for a piece to find a home, especially if you are not sending out simultaneuos submissions...

One thing is for sure. If you keep sending stuff out, you will eventually make it.
