people vadalizing restrooms. how to stop it?
how do you stop it? we had someone last week in the mens room do a #2 on the floor, next to the toilet. it was intentional of course.... i'd love to catch them in the act. it would not be a pretty site.

I can relate to this frustration!!! I get everything from sandwiches hidden behind the toilets to #2 wiped on toilet paper and then just dropped on the floor to tampon smeared across walls. Gross! to say the least. I do however get help from most of the staff in the school. Teachers check into the bathrooms on their walks down the hall, students report messes. The Principal handles it as a very important issue. Threats and slurs are recorded with a camera. Signs have been posted that the police will be involved if caught writing on the walls and signed by the Principal. The latest thing we are about to try is the mural painting in the bathrooms. To give the students ownership of their area ... hopefully a sence of pride. The worst thing that could happen is we have to pay for more paint to overcoat the work the students are about to do. I also take the time to explain to some of the kids that know me, that writing on the walls and making messes only makes more work for me and that the person that they are really mad at probably doesn't see it. And I have found that if your toilet paper runs under rather than over for dispencing, kids have a harder time wasting it. I always make sure that in our Staff rest rooms that the toilet paper unwinds from the top and over, this way it unspools easier and nobody else has touched the paper that is being dispenced. Hope your days become better. |

I have only thing to add to this. One make sure the restroom is as bright as possible. A low lite restroom will have more problems than bright one. The other is, Here the principal requires the teacher of the odd classrooms to monitor the hallways on change of class than even ones on the next change of class and so on. Plus the classroom next to restrooms those teacher responable for monioring the restrooms. This has reduce the griffit in the hallwalls and the messes in the restrooms. |

I work in a K-3 school. K-2 each have their own bathrooms, so they are easy to catch. Our 3rd graders & special ed. are the only ones allowed to use the big, main bathrooms. We have problems like this off and on. At this age, most kids will tell on each other. The teachers won't ask for names, just talk to them as a group. When they are done, we (the janitors) get ahold of the kids as a group in the cafeteria. We let them tell... I figure whatever works. If we absolutely can't figure it out then they all have to use the office bathroom. That REALLY cuts down on bathroom traffic. We also have checkout sheets in each classroom that the kids have to sign out and back in whenever they use the restroom. Just wondering... why are the students using the Teacher's lounge bathroom? or is a teacher doing this? Good luck with that! |

I removed a few postings today. There is a person posting using more than one nick name plus there was the mentioning of a vice principal's true name...please do not name people here even the annoying ones. I hate to do it but can ban any people who abuse the forum so please play nice. Thank you

Ale, We had that happen in our building too! I swear we need some kind of space suits to gear up for those rare occasions. The thing when it happened in our building there were no students that day. Just teachers and staff! Now come on guys WHY would anyone do such a thing? It was purposely done too. |

I've had kids do DO-DO in the urinal - elementary kids! We came up with a way to stop the writing on the particians and tiled walls. Here is our secret. Take a can of dust spray, the type used on dust mops, spray down the partician lightly and wipe it all over the stall. It won't hurt anything... especially the kids when they try using their favorite marker while doing "their duty" on the comode. |
