Head Custodians
Shame on many of you! I'm a head custodian and the first thing I did reading about your "head custodians", was to check what time you posted your messages. Seems to me that many of you doing the complaining are second shift workers. How come your on the computer and not doing your work? Not enough to do? |

What is your problem!!! By law workers are entitled to two breaks and a lunch every work shift. And many write in here during summer where they work the day shift, vacation days, sick days, during their lunch breaks, etc. Breaks cannot be by the clock many times as workers are often asked to do extras, last minute things and are very often even called away even from their lunches to take care of emergencies or even non-emergencies such as "custodian report to lower hall, a student cannot open their locker", or knock, knock...hello, oh were you eating lunch? Can you show me where lost and found is?", etc....For many of us break times and lunch times are whenever we can find them. You want to judge people by the clock. Hey, if you're a head, what are YOU doing on the computer at this time? Sheesh... |

Way to go Wonder Woman! Our cleaners on second shift could pass a typing exam hands down with all the keyboarding experience they get while at WORK!! |

TSK-TSK! YOu must have the ideal school with faultless workers. I work the 1p.m. to 9:30p.m. shift, but that can change at the drop of a hat. Sometimes I have to go in at 6a.m., other times I may have to go in at 10:30 or 11:00a.m. to either open up or cover lunch. On teacher work days we go in at 7a.m. At school none of the custodians, even the head, are allowed use of the computers. I do my postings usually in the wee hours of the mornings, usually due to insomnia. Just wondering if your workers are forever shaking in their shoes. |

Okay, here it goes . . . I was sure there would be the great "defend myself attitude, I'm the perfect second shift worker, blah, blah, blah". What I really had hoped to hear was, "I was on this website to look up a cleaning tip". There always seems to be, in at least every other building, some loud mouthed second shift worker who whines "First shift doesn't do anything!" Now don't work yourself up into a lather . . . there is also plenty of head custodians who claim "Second shift doesn't do squat!" In my building, we do plenty of walking in the "others" shoes. When I'm not in, second shift fills in for me. When second shift isn't in, I fill in for them. Let me tell you, it eliminated all this whinning crap and opened the door (and eyes) to deep respect for one anothers position. Instead of trying to "bash" someone, look for the good in what he/she does and build from that. Sit down and be open with the person your having these problems with and stop being a crying coward! |

Some of us understand that this forum is for venting and not name calling. Many of us look to this avenue for some sage advice and tactful ways of going about solving some of our workplace problems. By the way, coward is a very strong word. But then again, so is the term "bully". Ever been written up on these charges? If so, I'm not surprised. |

Interesting... Custodian's vs: Head Custodian's??? Personally I don't put much effort into clock watching, I enjoy my crew I love my building and work with a wonderful staff. Are head custodians overrated? YES we are, because we don't do the bulk of the cleaning in most cases. I have many skills as the head toilet cleaner but the most important skill I have is the one I use when dealing with the people who make me shine... my crew! It's always struck me odd how angry and power grabbing some of my "Head" colleagues can act, we are charged with the care and cleaning of a building not the world. I think people are important not Ego's. Maybe I've misjudged you? I hope that's the case because after all you must first follow before leading. Sincerely, Spongebob |
