Past News: 2007 Season end awards
The Big Ring Flyers capped off the 2007 WiSport campaign by winning both team points competition and securing a host of individual awards, which were presented Oct. 27 in Grand Marsh, Wisc. In addition to capturing both the team competitions, a number of Flyers were awarded jerseys in several categories. Andrea Potyondy-Smith brought home the Green Jersey for finishes in "flat" races while Julie Phelps was awarded the Polka Dot Jersey for hilly races. Dave Goetzinger captured the Yellow Jersey in the Cruiser division while Cam Wilcox won the White Jersey for younger riders. The team also brought home a slew of individual age group awards in both the road race series and the time trial series. Winners included: Matt Rau, Bean Linzmeyer, Jim Frame, Scott Sawitski, Mike Buelter, Bob Barabe, Dave Goetzinger, Varick Olson, Robert Cattanach, Cam Wilcox, RJ Ochmann, Andrea Potyondy-Smith, Julie Phelps, Jeff Colbeth, Elmer Colyer and Natalee Colyer. William Johnson, a long-long-time participant in the WiSport series, was awarded the Spirt of WiSport award for his work and dedication to the series both on and off the bike. The team also awarded six newly created inter-team awards: Most Valuable Teammate: Jeff Colbeth (Other nominees: Jim Frame, Andrea Potyondy-Smith, Bob Barabe, Nate Phelps) Iron Crotch Award (over coming adversity, etc): Dave Goetzinger (Other nominees: Varick Olson, Bean Linzmeyer) Domestique of the Year: RJ Ochmann (Other nominees: Mike Berzinski, Gerry Hansen, Nate Phelps, Dave Wilcox, Andrea Potyondy-Smith) Homer Simpson Award (D�oh moment): Jeff Colbeth (Other nominees: The Lost Omoro Group, Jim Frame) Rookie of the year: Julie Phelps (Other nominees: Scott Sawitski, Jim Frame) Most Improved Rider: Julie Phelps (Other nominees: RJ Ochmann, Bean Linzmeyer, Jeff Colbeth) |
