Pedal for Proceeds RR 4/26/08

WHITEWATER, WIsc. -- A late arriving spring, a new course, and gusty southwest winds greeted riders of the 2008 Pedal For Proceeds RR in Whitewater April 26.

The Big Ring Flyers got off to a quick start when Jeff Colbeth took a flyer off the front and held it for about eight miles, in the face of gusty winds that ranged between 28 and 39 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

Throughout the pack riders from the Flyers and other teams battled the head- and crosswinds for 24 miles before turning into the wind one last time for an uphill finish.

When the dust settled, Jim frame and David Goetzinger had secured top- 10 finished for the team, coming home fifth and ninth respectively. Andrea Potyondy-Smith came in fifth overall in women and Julie Phelps finished sixth.

Here's a breakdown of team results:

5 -- Jim Frame 9-- David Goetzinger 18-- Nate Phelps 28 -- Jeff Colbeth 54-- Andrea Potyondy-Smith 55-- Julie Phelps 63--David Wilcox

71--Bean Linzmeyer.

The WiSoprt season continues this weekend with a time trial in Willard. Rain and cold are forecast.
