MN State TT, Afton Alps MTB, and WI State RR June 7 & 8, 2008 ST. PETER, MINN --Weekend racing for Big Ring Flyers kicked off Saturday in St. Peter with Jeff Colbeth riding in the Minnesota State TT in St, Peter Minnesota in a 40K time trial. Colbeth finished 12 in Cat 4/5 with a time of 1:02:46. HASTINGS, MINN -- Act one of Sunday's soggy racing moved to the Afton Avalanche mountain bike race -- part of the Minnesota State Championship Series -- where David Oachs took 15th in the Expert division of the race. An account of the event posted on Skinnyski.com noted, "Damp and humid conditions made for a tough day of racing at the Afton Avalanche on Sunday. The recent wet weather forced some course alterations but still provided the lung busting course riders have come to expect." Lung busting. How fun. SPRING PRAIRIE, WISC -- Act two of Sunday's wet racing took place at the Wisconsin State RR Championship on a short 6.5-mile loop with a nasty little climb in Southeastern Wisconsin. Julie Phelps brought home a silver medal racing in the women's 26-mile Cat. 4 race while Nate Phelps finished 22nd in the men's shortened (due to delays for heavy thunderstorms) 32.5-mile Cat. 4/5 race.
