600 vs 850 distributor |

Paul,
The vacuum advance on my 600 distributor has quit advancing. I have a spare mechanical distributor from an 850 that I've converted to an optical trigger. The measurements between the two are very similar. Are they interchangable?
My concerns are that the engine rotations are opposite, there seems to be small plate in the 600 head in the way, and the top end is larger on the 850 distributor. Are these easy fixes or should I try to rebuild the 600?
