Subject:   5 days with Spinal Headache. Safe to go back to work?

Message:   I had a spinal tap on New Year's Day due to a suspected aneurysm. The CT and MRI ruled that out and I was sent home. I woke up 1/2/08 with a Spinal Headache so severe that I couldn't do anything but lay flat on my back and stare at the ceiling. As the week progressed, I called my physician and the ER nurse. They said time would repair this condition or I could come in for a blood patch. I wanted to avoid any further invasion in my spinal area (a bit gunshy at this point) and decided to wait it out. After downing quarts of caffeine and water, I began to improve. Today is day 5. I was able to get out of bed without the painful headache. I do feel exhausted and tight/sore and if I try to sit or stand for too long (30mins+) I can tell a slight headache coming on. Yesterday, I woke with the Spinal Headache and it didn't subside until about 1pm, the day before it was 3pm. So, I'm assuming the leak is improving/healing and my weakness/soreness is from laying in bed for 5 days. Since tomorrow is Monday, I'm wondering if I would in any way set myself back if I tried to go to work and sit upright for 6-8 hours. If my lack of major symptoms this morning means my leak has been repaired (thank GOD!) then I can push through the other discomforts, but if I could, in any way, bring on my former symptoms... I'll take it easy another day or two.
Thanks.
