Subject:		intense ( spinal?) headache DURING surgery? Please help sched 2 weeks

Message:		During the birth of my first child I had a c-sec - I was given a spinal block which took a few attempts to get in. My legs went numb etc everything going to plan.....I was laid flat and apart from a little nausea seemed to be doing well. As they tilted the table to begin surgery the most intense pain I have ever felt started. From mid way up my back it pulsated up through my neck and over my head, not just a "headache" but agonising pain. I remember trying to breathe through it but the throbbing made it hard to breathe at all. I felt like I was screaming but apprently it was barely a whisper, The anesthetist told my husband he couldn't give me anything until after the baby was out. As soon as my son was born he gave me Medazalan - and I have little memory of the next 4-5 hours. I know I was given a lot of fluid ( 5 bags all up I think) I was given morphine as post op painkiller and apart from a very sore neck and back had no headache to speak of the next day. I am having my 2nd child in a few weeks again by c-sec and we seem to be left with little option other than having a GA as noone will offer an explanation as to what may have happened and the idea of going through it again is too terrifying. Can anyone offer a suggestion as to what may have caused this immediate onset of a headache and is it typical of the "Spinal headache" associated with Spinal anaesthetic? many thanks in advance
