Okay, here's the story and I'll try to keep it short.
I don't know if my symptoms are related to it, but I had meningitis almost exactly two years ago, due to the diagnostic LP, I got a spinal headache which was alleviated after about a month of constant misery, by a blood patch.
Over the past two years, I've had a horrible recurring "migraine", which I never associated with the lumbar puncture, or the spinal headache. But I have constantly complained of the same symptoms with each and every one, all alleviated by the same methods, lying flat, loading up on caffeine and fluids and staying in a dark room until it subsides. With each one, my chief complaint has been that when I cough, stand up, use the restroom, or do much talking myself, the pain is incredibly worse and it feels like my head is going to explode.
Now, for about two weeks, I've had the worst one ever. I'm getting NO better and I actually went to the ER thinking I might have meningitis again and turned down a spinal tap to diagnose it because I was afraid of what happened last time. They gave me prescriptions for narcotic pain relievers and sent me home with the assumption that it was viral meningitis. Well, the narcotics do no good. I only get some relief when I stay lying flat. But I have a constant ringing in my ears and lying flat only alleviates the majority of the pain, it does not go away completely.
Also, leading up to this current thing, I started having some numbness and weakness in my left arm, blurred vision and an overall feeling of just..for lack of a better term, ickiness. When the (what i thought at first was a migraine) hit, I did what I always do and loaded up on caffeine and went to bed in my dark room. But every time I go to the bathroom or someone lets light in the room or gets any volume when they are talking to me, I am overcome by the pain and break down in sobs. After about a week and a half, I got a new symptom, that is a weird smell/taste and a constant burning/tingling sensation in my nose/sinuses. Everything tastes like chemicals, just breathing is irritating because there is a constant smell of chemicals.
I was looking at symptom trackers online trying to figure out what the heck is going on here, because at this point, if it were meningitis, I'd be feeling better and I'm not. My symptoms came back as spinal headache and it all came back. But I don't remember having the weird taste in my mouth or the burning sensation in my nose....
Just tell me what ya'll think I should do next.
Thanks. |
