Subject:   low pressure headache after spinal surgery

Message:   My 18yo son, had his 3rd spinal surgery 6 weeks ago, to remove and replace misplaced pedicle screws. His original spinal fusion and instrumentation was in 06. In 2/07 he had lumbar laminectomy for spinal compression. Two weeks after this most recent surgery, he developed a headache one day that hasn't quit and he is suffering now for a month. MRI without contrast was done, and lumbar MRI and read as normal. No CT Myelogram done. Is a CT Myelogram contraindicated in a patient with cystoperitoneal shunt (last revised in '99)? Is a spinal headache, low pressure headache possible after rod revision surgery?? No meds seem to work, and lying down only eases the pain. Can this resolve on its own without a surgical treatment??? How long usually for a leak to heal???
Thank you
