Message:   I am so thankful I happened upon this site. Six years ago I had a spinal when having a C-section. I had a trainee doing the spinal and evidently she did something wrong. I know this because the doctor across the room yelled at her that she put it in the wrong place. Well- the next day I had a spinal headache which was treated by a blood patch that gave me immediate relief. Now- fast forward to the present. About six months ago I started having extreme headaches. I call them brain pains because I don't know any other way to describe them. They occur when I am doing things such as laughing, coughing, or having a bowel movement. The pain is sudden, severe and feels like knives on the front of my head right above my eyes. The "brain pains" only last for 5-20 seconds, but once they are over I have "migraine type" headaches for the rest of the day. If I am standing, these "brain pains" take me to the ground! It is the very worst pain I have ever had! Now- in the last couple of weeks I have associated this smell with the brain pains. It is a smell stuck in my nose- almost like burning wood- it's weird and I don't know if it is related to the brain pains, but I've started noticing that the smell is usually there either right before I have a pain or right after. I went to my primary doctor a couple of months ago and he did an MRI and it came back fine. So- I happened upon this site and thought- well maybe these brain pains are related somehow to the spinal headache I had six years ago. These brain pains don't happen all the time, but when they do- I can't function! Please help- any advice would be appreciated!
