Message:   I am currently experiencing a very similar situation and would like further guidance.

I had a myelogram done with the onset of a classic spinal headache that same evening. On day 3 of a very severe spinal headache accompanied with nausea, I went to the ER and had a blood patch done upon my doctor's recommendation. The headache went away immediately and was gone for one day, but it came back the following day. Today is now day 11 since the original onset of symptoms. It is the first day I have noticed my symptoms getting less severe (I am still bed-ridden, but I can open my eyes now, talk to people more easily, and I don't feel like I'm going to die if I get up to use the bathroom.)

I have read that most headaches resolve within 7-10 days and sometimes last up to 14. I really don't want to get another blood patch done, so am trying to wait it out. I have spoken to an anasthesiologist and she thinks the ER doc may have re-punctured my dura when he did the blood patch, which would put me at day 7 with a new puncture and could explain why I am beginning to see improvement in my symptoms.

I have two questions:

1.
Do you think it's probable the doctor did indeed puncture the dura again during the blood patch procedure?

2.
Do severity of symptoms correspond to duration of symptoms?

3.
Do symptoms resolve very gradually? With today being the 11th day with decreased symptoms, is it reasonable to expect this will be completely gone by 2 weeks?

I'm trying very hard to wait it out, but if it's going to be a month before my symptoms are completely gone, I would much rather go in and get a repeat blood patch.

THANK YOU so much for your time.
