Subject:   Huntington's Conference Seeks Speaker
Name:   Moderator
Date Posted:   Apr 23, 07 - 4:05 PM
Message:   The Huntington's Disease Society of America is seeking a SLP who can conduct a workshop on swallowing, communication and Huntington’s Disease. The session will take place on Friday June 15, 2007 from 1:00 to 1:45 pm. in Oklahoma City, OK The actual Powerpoint presentation should be about 30 minutes with the last 15 minutes devoted to questions from the audience. The session should talk about communication, swallowing and eating problems that will arise along continuum of the disease as well as coping strategies and communication tools that can be introduced early in the disease process to enable the person with HD to maintain a better quality of life.

The workshop will be attended by about 30-50 people and is targeted specifically for individuals living with HD (i.e. are asymptomatic but gene positive, in early or early mid stage or caregivers). In addition, we would like to invite the speaker to conduct a 40 minute speech/swallowing exercise class for people with HD as part of our HD Activity Center on Friday from 2:00 – 2:45 p.m. And if possible, we also invite the speaker to facilitate a roundtable of questions and answers on communication strategies on Sunday morning, June 17 from 8:00 – 9:30 a.m.

The speaker will receive reimbursement for parking and luncheon expenses and is invited to attend the many different educational workshops that are scheduled for Friday and Saturday afternoons.

The convention is being held at the Cox Convention Center in downtown Oklahoma City.

Your help in finding a speaker for the HDSA annual convention is greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Deb Lovecky
