Degenerative Myelopathy

Does anyone have any experience with degenerative myelopathy in our breed? And if so how old was the dog and how was it confirmed.

I've already looked up all the website info and spoken to my vet, but I was hoping to get some real experiences. I had someone contact me that their dog had been diagnosed with this condition, no formal tests were done other than to rule out lymes. The dog is 9 1/2 and his senior panel was all normal.

TIA

Re: Degenerative Myelopathy

I have a dog with it right now. He's 12 years old and was diagnosed at about 10 1/2. I thought there was a thyroid problem because he was getting bigger and bigger in the front end. Turns out he was using his front legs and shoulders to pull himself along.

I'm using Animal Naturals Young At Heart and Joint Strong and he's doing great. Where I expected him to lose use of his rear quickly it doesn't appear to be alot worse.

I don't believe it's a common problem in our breed.

Mine is 10 yrs. Went downhill fast over the past winter. My canine chiropractor is the one who suggested he might have it. Sure enough.....

What kind of tests were done to diagnose this?
