Recruitment ideas...

Hello,
I am in process of recruiting 300+ volunteers for a festival that Chicago hosts every year. Because students and teachers receive free tickets it seems that they are a bit of a hard recruit. I have posted on idealist, volunteermatch, and chicagovolunteer, any other ideas? We also offer several internships that requie a bit more of a time commitment. I'd appreciate any ideas-thanks all!

Re: Recruitment ideas...

Try contacting local businesses to see if they would be willing to get the word out to some of their employees. Here in St. Louis, our local United Way has a program that hooks businesses who promote volunteering in and through the work place with non-profits who need people for events like yours.
Good luck!

Re: Recruitment ideas...

Girl and Boy Scout groups are a great resource for getting large numbers of volunteers. Also, try churches (adults and youth groups). What about posting it the "calendar" section of local papers, or placing an ad? You might need to try a more "personal" approach, since it seems your other more generic approaches aren't succesful thus far.

Re: Recruitment ideas...

Go the route of corporate volunteers of companies that attach $ to volunteer time.

Start with one or two big companies in your area (Boeing's there, right?) or Sears, Nuveen.

Call their Community Relations office to find out what, if any, kind of matching program they have.

300 volunteers+corporate matching= cha ching and bodies!
