When I want to find a spot I use a combonation of word of mouth and internet research, I try to find as many pics and descriptions as possible, to find a likely place and I then go there. A local hunter or hiker is likely to know of at least one or two possibly jumpable cliffs. Look on maps for waterfalls, dams and quarries. A 12 foot length of rope and a rock on the end is a good way to check a large area of water.
