Calcium supplements

If you are told to add calcium for a growing puppy ?what is the best way to do that and is there a supplement that has the balance of other neutrients needed for absorption>?

Re: Calcium supplements

I don't know why some one would recommend it and I would NEVER do it. EVER.
A large breed puppy food should supply the proper amounts of calcium for a growing pupper.

Re: Re: Calcium supplements

I take extra care to not overdo calcium in growing puppies and young dogs, but if there is some special reason why a dog needs to be supplemented with calcium, I have always heard that they also need Vitamin D for absorbtion.

Re: Calcium supplements

If you are feeding a high quality, balanced puppy food, the puppy should require no supplements at all. Feeding supplements can actually cause problems. If the puppy has a metabolic problem then follow your vet's advice.
