Feeding

How much and how many times per day do you feed your 6-8 week old puppies. Looking to be sure I am on the right track. TIA

Re: Feeding

Six week old pups would be less but as they leave at 8 weeks most are eating about 3/4 cup to a cup three times a day. Maybe someone with 6 week old could answer. Depends upon size of pups also.

Re: Feeding

Typical feedings for 6 week old pups here is 1 to 1 1/3 TOTAL cups per day divided over 4 feedings.

Amounts are slowly increased between 6-8 weeks old so that pups are eating 1.5 - 2 TOTAL cups at 8 weeks old divided into 3 feedings.

I know there are breeders feeding/recommending a lot more but that is what works for us. Feeding any more results in poor stool! My pups are not small either.

Re: Re: Feeding

Per puppy or whole litter? Seems not to be enough food.

Re: Feeding

We free feed our puppies up to 8 weeks old. They have great poop consistancy. At 8 weeks they move to 1 c 3x a day feeding and then go up from there as they grow.

Re: Feeding

Should have also added our 8 week old puppies weigh 15 lbs on average.

Re: Feeding

I am feeding the same as Wade, about 1.5 to 2 cups per day per puppy. I feed this amount over three feedings so about 1/2 cup per puppy at each feeding. Feeding more just gives me loose stools and overweight pups. Perhaps I would feed more with a different food but with what I have used (GO! Natural, Innova, Kirkland) it has always been this amount.
