Hips again

How old is too old to have hips checked? Aren't they changing all the time anyway?
So if you didn't have them checked by 2 your out of luck? Thanks

Re: Hips again

I had my dog's finals done when he was 4 and they did not change from his prelims done at 14 months(good/normal).

Re: Hips again

Well that's great to know ! Thank you for your input

Re: Hips again

Same here, I had finals on my girl done when she was 4, and same as her prelims at 22 months (Good hips, normal elbows).

Re: Re: Hips again

I've often waited til 3-4 yrs to do finals.......and only once has a rating "declined", several times hips have improved and for me.....elbows have stayed the same.

Re: Hips again

Please correct me if I am wrong but from what I have been taught, your dog will be compared to other Labradors of the SAME AGE. So if you do not get hips and elbows done till 5, 6, 7 years of age the OFA takes in consideration the age. Meaning the will not compare the hip conformation of a 4 year old lab to what it should look like at a younger age such as 2.

Re: Re: Hips again

I think you are correct on that. same age.....same sex.

Re: Hips again

How do they determine the rating for the hips. Is it the best of the 3 readings or the lowest?

Re: Hips again

It is explained in the first paragraph
