I am learning about the heart clearance and was not sure if ALL echo's include the color doppler, or if that is an add on... could someone clarify? Some websites post up clearances of the heart as Cardiac Normal by Echo, and then others state Cardiac Normal by Color Doppler. Are they one and the same in all cases? Thank you for the help!!!
Dogs are not sedated when echos are done unless the dog is really, really wild or aggressive--not likely to happen. A board certified cardiologist should do the color flow doppler, but it is not a bad idea to check. A regular vet is not likely to have the color flow doppler, nor to have the cardio expertise.
One more thing--while you are asking, make sure, if at a University hospital, that the dog is not SHAVED. They should be able to use rubbing alcohol, although some Lab coats can be very thick. Anyone ever have to have them shaved at a cardio clinic?
