off topic--sick of NY taxes!

This morning's paper tells me that here in New York we will have a substancial tax increase in order to cover the decrease in the state retirement fund that covers teachers and other state retirees. My personal 401k that I have funded myself is down 40%. No one is making that up for me.
Property taxes on our place that is assesed for $239,000 are $4000/yr.
When I go to shows in the Md and Va area and look at places for sale taxes on them are way less than here.
How about NH with the "live free or die" motto?
Anyone just gone for it and made the move?

Re: off topic--sick of NY taxes!

So, how's that hope and change working out for you?

Re: off topic--sick of NY taxes!

Yeah...we're out of here in a few years when, if, we ever get to retire.
Last I heard, now the feds want to tax our health insurance benefits.
God help us. Cut taxes and let the economy grow.

Re: off topic--sick of NY taxes!

I made the move from NY nine years ago. Sold my house in WNY and moved just outside of Daytona Beach. I pay $800 a year taxes here. I miss NY, I was born and raised outside of Buffalo (my family and life long friends are there), but love this area of central FL. With the high heating bills in the winter and NY taxes, I honestly don't know how people do it ( or even want to do it).

Re: off topic--sick of NY taxes!

4000K per year in taxes are what you will pay on a million dollar house in some parts of MD & VA...

Re: off topic--sick of NY taxes!

we did! Only thing missed is the pizza!

Re: off topic--sick of NY taxes!

Even the Denver area has NY pizza now..go for it. Our taxes are reasonable here also. My mother lives in NJ, at the shore, waterfront property. I cringe at her tax bill, but she will not sell.

Re: off topic--sick of NY taxes!

Taxes may be high, but New York is a beautiful state with a lot to offer, and I love it!

My sister and her family left for NC several years ago and, let me tell you, there are things to complain about no matter where you move. Her taxes are low but so is her salary, and housing prices aren't exactly bargains. The grass may look greener elsewhere but it's not necessarily so!

Here's some of the lovely things our tax payer's dollars are now going to fund too:

H.R. 1388 was passed

Whether you are an Obama fan, or not, EVERYONE IN THE U. S. Needs to know...

Something happened... H. R. 1388 was passed yesterday, behind our backs. You may want to read about it. It wasn't mentioned on the news... Just went by on the ticker tape at the bottom of the CNN screen.

Obama funds $20M in tax payer dollars to immigrate Hamas Refugees to the USA . This is the news that didn't make the headlines...

By executive order, President Barack Obama has ordered the expenditure of $20.3 million in "migration assistance" to the Palestinian refugees and "conflict victims" in Gaza .

The "presidential determination", which allows hundreds of thousands of Palestinians with ties to Hamas to resettle in the United States , was signed on January 27 and appeared in the Federal R egister on February
4.

Few on Capitol Hill, or in the media, took note that the order provides a free ticket replete with housing and food allowances to individuals who have displayed their overwhelming support to the Islamic Resistance Movement
(Hamas) in the parliamentary election of January 2006.

Let's review... Itemized list of some of Barack Obama's most recent actions since his inauguration:

His first call to any head of state, as president, was to Mahmoud Abbas, leader of Fatah party in the Palestinian territory.

< div>

His first one-on-one television interview with any news organization was with Al Arabia television.

His first executive order was to fund/facilitate abortion(s) not just here within the U. S. , but within the world, using U. S. Tax payer funds.

He ordered Guantanamo Bay closed and all military trials of detainees halted.

He ordered overseas CIA interrogation centers closed.

He withdrew all charges against the masterminds behind the USS Cole and the "terror attack" on
9/11.

Now we learn that he is allowing hundreds of thousands of Palestinian refuges to move to, and live in, the US at American taxpayer expense.

These important, and insightful, issues are being "lost" in the blinding bail-outs and "stimulation" packages.

Doubtful? To verify this for yourself: http://www.thefederalregister.com/d.p/2009-02-04-E9-2488

PLEASE PASS THIS ON... AMERICA NEEDS TO KNOW

Re: off topic--sick of NY taxes!

And WHO voted for him ? Some just would not listen.
Oh, the change it is a comin'.

Re: off topic--sick of NY taxes!

Okay - back on topic.

Marie - I love it here in Colorado. The only downside with showing dogs here is the huge gas bills to get to most shows. We have some nearby, of course but to finish a dog here usually involves at least some driving in the 6-10 hour range. That part of it sucks.... our friends on the two coasts have it really good compared to here. When I lived back East we often had a choice of which direction to go on a show weekend. My friends thought I was nuts to opt to drive 3 hours instead of 1 - they just didn't understand where I came FROM!!!

Re: off topic--sick of NY taxes!

I sure didn't vote for Obama! Great, he refuses to help California but hey lets bring more people in the country while we can't even take care of ourselves.

He's been drinking too much kool-Aid with the kids!

Re: off topic--sick of NY taxes!

Move to Siberia, I hear there are no taxes there.

It isn't the taxes per se--it's the whole idea of what they are going for. I have neighbors and friends who are my age (59) and younger who are able bodied and just sitting home every day--full retirement. One friend just turned 62. She and her husband, both New York State retirement. Now that they get social security they are "making" over 100,000 a year, plus full medical and dental and reimbursement for medicare that is deducted from the social security. They have no education beyond high school. Ah well, I need to go snuggle with a Lab and be happy for what I have...just gets me ..this taking care of dependants that aren't my kids or dogs :)

Yeah. I probably should put a smile on my face as I pay to ensure the 100k per yr folks maintain their way of life while I make 35k and pay my own health insurance and try to hang on to what's left of my 401k. Hurrah for the former state workers!

Re: off topic--sick of NY taxes!

Agree with the above poster. Had a family member just come back from a work related trip to Rwanda and Kenya.......I don't think we have much to complain about! The people is those countries also work hard every day and live in abject poverty with low life expectancy for themselves and their children. I thank God every day that I live in this country- no matter who is leading it! Also, we have the right to complain publicly like this- not everyone is so lucky (see China).

Re: off topic--sick of NY taxes!

I was born in NY and moved to Germany for 3 years after college; lived in Texas for 1 year(thank _od only 1 year), lived in Vegas for 3 years and then moved back to NY. I missed this state very much and I know it isn't perfect, but it's a great place to live and it's beautiful here in CNY. I love the seasons.

Okay, Michael - isn't this about enough?

Re: off topic--sick of NY taxes!

The UNH Coach is a great coach who has developed a nationally renowned program over many years. He is paid consistently with the industry standard and I am sure the profits his program makes the university more than justifies his salary.

However, the fact that he is the highest paid state employee shows how poorly we pay our state employees. Our state representatives are essentially volunteers (which pretty much guarantees retired rich white guys). Our state is a tax haven for rich retired people who own property in property rich towns. The common person gets screwed with very high property taxes and high fees on everything state government provides.
