Tums for calcium

For those of you who give tums to their girls while whelping a litter for the added calcium, would the mint flavored Tums be all right. Usually I give the fruit flavored but didn't know if they could have the mint flavored.

Re: Tums for calcium

doesn't make any difference.

Re: Tums for calcium

not only will she receive her much needed calcium but her tummy will be calm and her breath minty fresh!

wont hurt her a bit, good luck with your upcoming litter

Re: Tums for calcium

For those who give tums and don't use calcium injections, (I use fruit flavored tums), how many and how often do you give them if you also gave some ice cream every hour or two.

Re: Tums for calcium

I give (1) 600 or 750 mg. tablet every 12 hours after whelping, if the bitch seems like she needs it.

I try not to give dairy if I can help it (except for yogurt)

Re: Tums for calcium

I was told by my vet to give tums during whelping. Does anyone agree?

Re: Tums for calcium

Yes once labor has started I give 2 tums every 12 hours and then 1-2 in her meals.
I stop around the same time I start feeding the pups, 4 weeks.
