best food for 9 week old puppy

I have been told that Evo, which I thought would be good for my puppy because it has a lot of protein and an adequate amount of fat, is in fact not good because it doesn't have enough carbohydrates so that the puppy will actually burn up her own muscle mass to create energy and will thus lose weight. I'd love to know what is the proper food for a puppy. Please help. Thanks

Re: best food for 9 week old puppy

My girl is 13 mo.She's been on Orijen since 9 week old. At 1 y.o. she was 80 lb. Her breeder told me she should be 72 lb. We reduced feeding. She has 3 caps instead of 4 cups now. Vet said she is healthy.
P.S. I love this webside.

Did your puppy's breeder recommend Evo or what food did they recommend?

Breeder was feeding Nature's Variety Instinct because it is grain free

Why don't you read this month's Gazette? There is some good info about protein and carbohydrates in large breed growing puppies and some further suggested reading as well. Puppies do need a lot of protein- at least 27% to build muscle mass. Carbs don't build muscle.
