spayed bitch in veterans classes?

Just wanted to check before I made my entries about the rules on entering a spayed female in Veterans regular and sweeps classes. I went to the AKC website and I think that it's OK if it's an independent specialty. Does this sound right? Thanks!

Re: spayed bitch in veterans classes?

That is correct. A spayed bitch may be shown in veterans.

Not always. I believe that if the dog will become eligible for best of breed, and then go on to the sporting group, the dog must be intact. Another absolutely ridiculous AKC rule.

Re: spayed bitch in veterans classes?

That is what an INDEPENDENT SPECIALTY means. Just one breed - No other breeds, no groups, no All-Breed Best in Show.

So, yes, you can show a spayed bitch in Veterans as well as Vet Sweeps at an independent specialty.

Re: spayed bitch in veterans classes?

What about showing a spayed bitch and a couple of her offspring that are still in tact in the Brood Bitch Class ? Are there any other classes that one can enter their spayed girl in with or without her intact kids ?

Re: spayed bitch in veterans classes?

How does a judge know if a bitch is "in tact"?
