EIC Question

Regarding EIC testing, a lot of breeders old and new a like are on the fence regarding this genetic test. If one had recently tested a third generation bitch which is the first EIC testing done and prior generations have NO EIC episodes, however the tested subject is a carrier. Would you breed to an EIC clear mate? ALl other genetic testing on subject done, subject is clearly a nice specimen and has competed in the breed ring and is pointed.

Re: EIC Question

Absolutely... that's the beauty of screening tools that tell us clear/carrier/affected status. You can most certainly breed your carrier girl to a clear male.

I have learned of yet another affected and collapsing from a popular sire. This owner is running MH w/ her girl even. She's not let it get them down. Get this on her trigger. Rabbits! She has never collapsed running field but will if she's on a rabbit. Interesting, huh?

Re: EIC Question

That would almost make me wonder if there isn't a correlation between a visual image and maybe blood pressure that triggers an EIC collapse.

Re: EIC Question

It does have something to do with the excitement level. An affected dog which regularly goes out hunting may never have an attack whilst engaging in this activity. That same dog may well collapse at home playing frisbee or even when playing with the other dogs at home.
