Friday progesterone at 5.53ng,collected and shipped chilled semen monday for a tuesday AI. Do you think we will have her covered ? Is there any point in trying another AI on either wed or thurs ? I would have liked to have seen a sunday AI but was too late to collect and ship by the time I got the numbers.

You should be right on and fine with the one. Assuming you are doing surgical.

You should be just fine. I've done several breedings 2-5 days after ovulation and have had success....vaginal insemination. I have a bitch here who was at 4.5 Monday morning, we didn't get semen in to her until Friday....she is quite pregnant.

The testing of progesterone is used because it is fast, reasonably inexpensive and close to the time ovulation occurs.

The rise in progesterone is more important than a final number. Progesterone has nothing to do with ovulation, it is a hormone, like estrogen, which changes around the time of ovulation.

Taking a number - a single number in mid-air, is not a good way to predict ovulation.
