Frozen semen

This question is directed to those of you that have frozen semen stored from your males.

What do you think is a good rule of thumb for a frozen breeding that misses?

Not only is the semen a rarity and sometimes from dogs that have passed on, it is irreplaceable. I realize we have additional costs to freeze and store our straws sometimes for many years, but when someone pays you for a breeding and it doesn't take what do you do? What is fair to both parties?

Re: Frozen semen

I have semen stored from my males and my contract states that if your bitch misses with frozen that's it , there is no repeat service. I have used frozen semen as well myself for a litter with a dog that while alive at the time was no longer standing at stud and it was with the inderstanding that if it didn't take I was out of luck...unless I was willing to pay again. It's not an endless commodity like fresh chilled would be.

Re: Frozen semen

I have no frozen semen from my boys. However, I have purchased frozen semen twice. In both cases, it was a one shot deal. If it doesn't work, you do not get a replacement.

Re: Frozen semen

Thank you for the information. I appreciate it.
