Epilepsy research - 3/13/10

Here’s the update from Liz. The sibling pair count is now 18!!!

Liz reports that they also got blood from 2 siblings, both of which have seizures. She said they are trying to reach the donor to see if it is possible to get blood from a non-seizing sibling or their dam as well.

So we are slowly getting there. As you know, the minimum needed to begin the initial mapping study is 25 sibling pairs – one dog with seizures, the other dog without seizures. Blood from relatives is very helpful too. Keep the submissions coming!

P.S. I heard from several people who said they haven’t sent blood since they don’t know if their dogs are what the researchers are looking for. Just call Liz. She is great to talk to and she can tell you if your dogs' blood would benefit the research or not. 573 884-3712

Re: Epilepsy research - 3/13/10

I sent blood from the 2 seizuring siblings and their sire last week. Blood from 2 of their non-seizuring siblings and their dam will follow after I see them next weekend. I believe Liz is aware of the time frame on this.
