Epilepsy and TVD

I just finished reading the very long TVD post. Unfortunately it sounds much like the Epilepsy posts. How can it be that after 1 year there are still not 25 sibling pairs received by U of MO to begin the research? It can only be that folks don't want to admit Epilepsy in their lines and send in the samples. A little scary to a newer Breeder that is preached to about 'betterment of our Breed'. Well, if health isn't the number one concern of ALL of us, then our Breed cannot be bettered. Regarding Epilepsy, escuses need to Stop being made for why the seizure happened. Fill out the forms, send in the blood and let the researchers decide. On the high end, it costs about $75.00, completely negligible when you think about the positive impact on improving our Breed.
Please, send in those samples for Epilepsy and TVD research. Help our Breed.

Re: Epilepsy and TVD

Maybe the reason is that some dogs only have one episode and the vets and specialists can't pin-point if it IS epilepsy or just a one time only seizure. If the dog is truly having recurring episodes, then folks need to be brave enough to submit so that we can look at this disease more closely, but with the bad-mouthing that goes on in this sport, I can certainly see why folks shut their mouths and make their own decisions not to breed their dogs behind closed doors.

I agree, please send in your samples. I'm talking to a brick walk tho.

OP, breeders in are denial. Epilepsy? Huh? What? No, it's seizures although nothing else wrong can be found. It's around as long as HD or longer. It's brushed off like a fly bugging some breeders. If they cared, there would have been 25 samples in the 1st month.

I've lost respect for some breeders over this b/c they have known epilepsy in their lines. Don't think the puppy buyers don't talk about it to other breeders.

The TVD research will have a faster genetic answer. God help a good percentage of the breed when it does.
