I was seriously looking at the Honda Element to buy for the specific use for my dogs, and actually I'm glad I went with the Honda Pilot instead. The plastic all through the interior of the Element in theory is a neat idea, but on my way back from Potomac I had 2 girls both blowing coat and what a mess. I couldn't imagine all that loose hair flying around me while I was driving, if I were in an Element. As it was in the Pilot, the fabric in the back kept floating hair to a minimum(I like to ride with the windows cracked a bit to allow a little air circulation), and it is an overall bigger vehicle with more cargo space for dogs and equipment. Needless to say, I love my Pilot and they're just slightly more expensive than an Element depending on the package.
I LOVE my Element. One of the first dog trips out, my pup had terrible diarrhea and vomiting...the plastic interior was a real advantage.
Hair doesn't blow around unless you have the windows down, which I never do when I am on the road.
Easy to flip up the seats or remove them entirely.
My hubby "borrowed" my Element for a few months when he was launching a new business. When I saw him building shelving and other inserts for carrying his tools, I said, "GET YOUR OWN!" So now we have two.
I still have my 8-hole dog truck for major road trips.
Everyone likes something different in a vehicle for their needs.
The Element sounds interesting and quite dog friendly. I look at my main vehicle for myself first and then if it is also dog friendly for my show or riding needs.
Some of us show every weekend, others a few times a year. Others take their dogs for a ride everywhere so alot depends on what you do with your dogs.
To each their own, thanks for bringing the Element up Barbara. It's an interesting, dog friendly car and it was nice of you to share the information with everyone.
