Best Dog Food for Allergies

I have a dog that has food allergies. I was just at the specialist and he wants me to put him on Royal Canine Potatoe & Rabbit Limited Ingredient formula to start. If this works he said I could try something else with fish and potatoe. I would like to know what you have found to work on your dogs with allergies. I realize dogs may be allergic to different things but in general which brands did you find to be the best.

I have a boy who had been eating raw for the last few years due to alergies. A couple of months ago I switched him to California Natural Herring and Sweet Potato kibble and have gotten fantastic results.

I was going to say Calif. Nat. too because of its limited ingredients.

You can a coupon for a free 5 pound bag of any Natura product, or a seven dollar off coupon by going to the Natura web site.

If the allergy is to chicken or grains then Acana Pacifica might work. It has no poultry of any kind, no grains, and lots of omega-3's. I feed it to a dog that is not allergic, but bowel intolerant of chicken, egg, etc.

The limited ingredient diets in the Dick Van Patten Natural Balance line also work well for allergy dogs (Potato and Duck, Sweet Potato and Venison, etc.). Their Lamb and Rice kibble is virtually identical to California Natural. Since Proctor and Gamble just bought all of the Natura line, it's possible that their ingredients will change, so Natural Balance may offer a good backup for those who currently feed CA Natural, if necessary. Wellness has also just introduced a line of limited ingredient diets.

Another recommendation for the Natural Balance LID line.
