My bitch came back with moderate unilateral right hip on her OFA at age 4. I've read a couple of places that "unilateral" is an indication of injury and not genetic. I am interested in your opinions on this.
I had a bitch years ago that produced at least one pup in each litter that was unilaterally dysplastic. It was always a female and it was always on the same side. The bitch herself was OFA good and also produced a lot of excellents. In large litters from diverse studs, most of the pups were x-rayed and all but one of two in a litter had good to excellent hips. The few that didn't were all unilaterals. I would call this hereditary.
At that age and no documented injury I would spay her/not breed. I would only trust a unilateral hip or elbow if there was a veterinarian documented injury.
