How much can light brown eye color hurt in the ring? I have a black dog that is very nice otherwise, but his eyes are light brown, not hazel, just light. It gives him a sharp and alert eye expression. Coat, top line type tail all looks really nice.

Depends on the judge I guess. I've seen some light colored eyed dogs do very well as long as the rest of them was nice too. In my book a too dark eye is as bad, if not worse, than a light eye!

I agree, dark eye does not give a nice expression. Too dark that is.

I would much prefer a lighter eye than an almost black one. It can be very harsh.
