What exactly is a fox red?

OK I was reading the thread on fox reds and admit I know little to nothing about them. Could you please tell me the difference between a Labrador that is very dark yellow with the red shades and tones, and a real fox red Labrador? Do you need to color test them? Do they test as yellow? When in the ring where is the dinstinction?
Thanks!

it's a shade of yellow - yellow being anything from cream to fox red

Re: What exactly is a fox red?

Thanks for the replies.. I started to google reds and have been reading and looking at pics... So another question. Are 'true' fox reds a solid deep dark red color with no variation in shade? What if a Lab possesses quite a lot of the dark coloring as pictured on the links, but also has a variation of lighter colored yellow as well? I am assuming that would not be a 'true' red fox Labrador?

You can look at the link "What is a Fox Red", it will completely answer your question.
