Potomac Asia - what????

Okay - does anyone else find it tacky that the Thailand Lab people are calling their show "Potomac Asia"? Can they not find their own name? Did they ask the LRCP if they minded the use of the name to promote their show?

Re: Potomac Asia - what????

It is a tremendous compliment to the LRCP show and club. They might have a problem with the language and simply called a big show POTOMAC for lack of knowledge.

Who cares anyway! It is a nice show.

Re: Potomac Asia - what????

It was named to honor and out of great respect for the dogs and breeders of this country. They had a great show so just let them enjoy.

The Thais would be mortified if they thought this had caused offence.

The show acknowledges their huge respect for the Greatest Labrador Show on Earth and their desire to have the Greatest Labrador Show in Asia.

The LRCP would need to have copyright on Potomac to require anyone having to ask permission to use the name.

Potomac is the river, it is not the Labrador Retriever Club.

Mimicry is the Greatest form of flattery. This group of enthusiasts has laid the foundation for a specialty unlike anything ever seen in Asia. Good Luck to them.

May it grow every year

Re: Potomac Asia - what????

I am a good friend of the gentleman who was a tremendous driving force to put this first Potomac Asia show to Thailand. He has the utmost respect for the USA Potomac gala and asked me what my thoughts were. I told him to make sure it wasn't a copyright on name. He did and I know this gentleman does his best to educate on clearances and proper breeding practice to the others in Thailand and neighboring areas in Asia. The show was a huge success with a wonderful judge. Kudos to Chaiyot Paporn for the first of many successful shows in the future!!

Re: Potomac Asia - what????

Agree with you 100% Victoria. Yot got in touch with me after I got home to Australia from my judging assignment in Stockton CA last November, He was the owner of my BOB & Gr4 winning Labrador.

Funnily enough, my Toy Gr 1st was a Pomeranian which was Thai owned and bred. (#1 Pom in USA 2010 as it turned out)

The owner of the Pom sent me a lovely card thanking me for the win.

The Thai Labrador people are embracing the health checking with enthusiasm and are very sincere in their endeavors to create a top class showcase for their Labradors.
