Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Labra-Danes

I don't know why anyone would spend that kind of money on a dane/lab mix as danes have wonderful temperaments and it's not that a lab would make it much smaller. My dane ate me out of house and home though and I even came home to my daughters mattress in shreads one day - amazing how much stuffing mattress' have.

There's a sucker born every day and if you have it, they will buy it.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Labra-Danes

Jackie,

I have to agree that your post seemed a bit unnecessary. The OP was just mentioning an observation. Not earth shattering, just a comment.
How is that any different than so many other comments on this forum? I could care less if some one breeds a chicken to a poodle and calls it a cock-a-doddle-do!
I think it is interesting what people will buy, me included at times. Free country is just that! We should embrace are freedoms, yet it still hurts no one to chuckle at what we at time do.

Re: Labra-Danes

I wasnt stirring any pot, they had a number and website on the ad, I didnt post it, due to NOT stirring a pot, as i know how things go on forums and life in general.
I just saw the ad and it surprised me, thats all.
With alot of hip problems in danes and the same in labs, i just got a visual of dogs with the potential of having serious problems, and at 850.00, just seemed crazy. I looked the site and they bred them intentionally. Again, I just didnt know people were breeding the two-but i guess nothing should surprise me anymore.

Re: Re: Labra-Danes-Bright Side

Why can't you look at the bright side
instead of the negative?

After all it is not about what others are
breeding, accidental or planned, it's about
the fuzzing little puppies they brought
into this world!

At least they are getting homes and not
placed in the Pound!! The dog does not
know or care if he is a purebred....
and deserves to be loved regardless of
the owner's ignorance.

Re: Re: Re: Labra-Danes-Bright Side

Vicki-I agree with you. They all have hearts and all give licks and kisses the same as any other dog.

Re: Labra-Danes

Jackie, needs to calm down. If no one stands up and takes notice before you know it breeds like the labradoodle will be recognised by the akc. We all need to be aware of what is going on around us. Going threw life with ones eyes closed is no way to go threw life at all.

Re: Labra-Danes

I might be interested in a cock-a-doddle-do!

Let's all take a deep breath.

Re: Labra-Danes

Breeder-OP-I don't think you did anything wrong. There was no reason for another poster to be mean to you.
I agree with your concern about health and the cost of mixed-breeds. You're right, both breeds are large and prone to hip dysplasia and other varieties of health problems. Bringing it to the attention of others is your prerogative, no one should attack you for it.
I can't picture what a Lab-Dane combination might look like. Hopefully it was an oops breeding and we won't see too many of these around.

Re: Labra-Danes

Thru rescue we adopted a dog almost 9 years ago that a breeder/friend swore was a lab - a big one mind you and not from the great lines/breeding, but a lab. Turns out he is PART lab but we believe also part Great Dane. If his ears had been cropped, the resemblance would be spooky. His disposition is wonderful and touch wood, no health problems other than some stiffness now in the cold/damp (like his owners). If you'd like to see what our dog looks like, post your e-mail and I'll send you some pics.

Re: Labra-Danes

When I saw the heading for this post I dropped my spoon in my cereal. I think I am going to get my daughter to change her email address now. She shows Labradors and Great Danes so her email address starts off as LabraDane. It never occured to me the possibility of that combination for a designer dog. This is just to funny whats next a cross between a Irish Wolfhound and a Maltese and call it a Wolfese. What part of mutt do these people not understand.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Labra-Danes

I see no where where I was being mean, you all need to chill out. All I said was what was the reason for posting that post. No one is going to stop people from breeding designer mixes, no one is going to stop the AKC from recognizing such mixes if people push for it either. Do you think the AKC cares less about getting another breed registerable? All AKC is about is collecting registration fees, they don't care if the dogs are healthy or anything else, it is a money making business.
You all took what I said out of context but then again i'm not surprized.
Aloha,
jackie

Re: Labra-Danes

Ive said it as a joke when i see a designer dog for sale and with more and more being mixed, i think im going to do it! Im buying some female boxers, and a few male shitzus(sp?) and breed them! AI style! I should be albe to sell them for at least 2500.00 each. Who wouldnt want to give an ex, ex mother in law, etc. a BOX-A-SHITZ? They would be such a great seller! Im doing it! Woohoooo.

(This is an attempt at humor on my part,I am not being serious-please hold your fire).

Re: Labra-Danes

Tks for the chuckle! I know of a few people I'd like to order one for!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Labra-Danes

No if someone wanted the stir the pot, they could have listed your phone number with it haha! Calm down.

Re: Re: Labra-Danes

I hear ya CM! I could buy the whole litter! Then my shitz list would not be as long LOLOL.

Re: Labra-Danes

This is way too much fun! Check out some of the names of the designer dogs on the attached list:

http://puppydogweb.com/designerdogs.htm

Re: Re: Labra-Danes

CM- thanks for that list.
Im going to hit the dog pounds tomorrow, see how many of them i can round up, must be hundreds i can come home with.
OMG i had no idea so many existed! Intentional that is!

Re: Labra-Danes

Sad to say, there is a large pet store nearby that regularly has ads in the newspapers advertising just such designer pups at, you guessed it, designer prices. It's everywhere.

Re: Re: Labra-Danes

This is a dangerous thread... I laughed so hard, I fell off my chair!!! :)

P T Barnum said it best..."There's a sucker born every minute".

Re: Labra-Danes

"Peek-A-Pom Puppies"

A peekapom? I can't believe some of the names.

This is a travesty that we shouldn't talk about b-c a breeder that doesn't live in the 48 states thinks we're stirring the pot? Hogwash! Let that breeder come here (never-ever does to shows) and see what's going on especially in the areas with huge amounts of property and privacy.

I suggest that breeder doesn't come back at any of us with her nasties. Apparently the breeder is clue-less about the problem in our 48 states. (I am not sure how Alaska is faring, I would be interested to know.)

Re: Re: Labra-Danes

Good one! LOL

Re: Re: Labra-Danes

OR if possible, they could breed a peek a pom and a cat and call it a PEEPING TOM.???

Re: Re: Re: Labra-Danes

Why not a boxer and a cocker and you get a box o'cock. Also, there is the ever popular shitzu X english bulldog + bullshitz.

Re: Labra-Danes

Very good! I darned near snorted my coffee though!!!

Re: Re: Re: Labra-Danes

Im the OP, i can see where you thought i was wanting to start something and It wasnt my intentions. I will do want to apologize for my sarcastic comment back to you, about breeding there. Im one to admit when im wrong and that was not a nice thing to say. I ate a bar of soap!
As in my other post, i was shocked to see someone selling mixed breeds like that for so much when i know of 3 dane-golden retriever mixes looking for homes in a no kill shelter here.

Re: Re: Labra-Danes

When I came back to these posts, I almost
peed my pants:) This is what we should
all be doing. LAUGHING.....

When I was working for a Vet. and boarding
facility on the wrong side of town where
all of our clients were either Pit Bull
or Chi. owners, and with all the money
they are making on mixed breeds, we decided
to breed a pit with a chi. Humm..what would
we call it???? Chia Pet????

Can you just imagine the temperament???
Don't reem me for my spelling please...

Try These on for size

Oh how I wish I could recall where the post or list was that had the funniest darn listing of all the mixed breeds in a very funny way...anyone know what I am talking about?
heres a couple I think are funny

Collie and Lhasa Apso = Collapso, folds up easy for transportation

Spitz and Chow Chow = Spitz Chow, throws up a lot

Pointer and Setter = Poinsetter, good around Christmas

Great Pyrenees and Dachshund = Pyradachs, a puzzling breed

Pekingnese and Lapsa Apso = Peeksasso, an abstract dog

Labrador Retriever and Curly Coated Retriever = Lab Coat Retriever, the choice of research scientists

Newfoundland and Basset Hound = Newfound Asset Hound, for financial types

Terrier and Bulldog = Terribul, makes awful mistakes

Deerhound and Terrier = Derriere, true to the end

Bloodhound and Labrador = Blabador, barks a lot.

Hope it made you laugh!!
Annie

Re: Try These on for size

I am so glad this thread turned out to be a blast!
We all need to laugh, thanks OP for thinking about this subject and bringing a little laughter my way.

Anne, thanks that was so funny!!

Re: Labra-Danes

I visited a farm few years back and saw their beautiful yellow lab laying down in the grass.
I about died laughing when he got up to come see me.
He was lab and basset, all yellow, lab head, bassett legs and ears. I dont know if anyone would do it on purpose but I have to say he was adorable

Re: Re: Labra-Danes

SampsonLabs- YES i saw a chocolate bassett coming out of pet smart one day, head, coat and all like a choc. lab, but sat WAY down there! I had to ask the owner what the dog was, sure enough choc. lab and bassett mix. Ill tell you, if it had been up for adoption, he would have been here. SO dang cute!! I love it.

Re: Labra-Danes

Going back to the OP.

What do the Labradanes look like?, is it real that out there are Labradanes Breeders?

Re: Re: Labra-Danes

Do a google search for labradanes. They have a picture and other info.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Labra-Danes

Thank you for the apology, you know with posting using typed text you cannot tell the intentions of what the person is trying to convey so it is understandable that you took it the wrong. I however had no mean intentions, was just stating that there is really not a thing you nor I can do about what people choose to breed and try and sell them as a designer dog. I do not like it that people breed dogs that are mutts and try to sell them as something special but i'm realistic enough to know that if I let it bother me it it will just make MY life miserable so I just ignore it all and focus on my own dogs.
God bless and Aloha,
Jackie

Re: Labra-Danes

I used to entertain myself on long drives thinking up designer breeds that my cocker could sire.

Doberman + cocker = Pinschacock
Havanese + cocker = Havacock
Cocker + Labrador = Cockadore
Curly Coat + cocker = Curly-cock
Pointer + cocker = Pointacock
Spinone + cocker = Spinacock
Whippet + cocker = Whipacock

Then of course there is the classic Cockapoo, and if you breed that to a Labradoodle you get a Cockadoodle doo.

Re: Re: Labra-Danes

TO FUNNY NANCY!! Thanks for sharing!

Re: Labra-Danes

From a British Gun Dog list:sprocadors. Any guesses? Springer/cocker/Lab mixes ebing bred and sold as hunting dogs!
Kathy

Re: Labra-Danes

Yes sadly they do exist. We had some ads running for them a few years ago in northern michigan.

Re: Labra-Danes

Yesterday I mentioned a local pet store advertising different hybrid pups for sale. This a.m. this was their ad: "Special Pups Special Prices H Chihuahua Type Special Price $588 H Low Chen Type Special Price $688 Pomeranian Pug Australian Shepherd Type H Yorkshire Terrier Type H Jack Russell Poos H Daxi Pom H Daxi Sheltie H Schnauzer". Not even going to try & come up with designer names for these!

Re: Labra-Danes

Wow - if I wanted to sell "hybrids" I could just call people that advertise in the paper and offer to take the whole litter. The shelters should be advertising them as "hybrids" instead of mixes. They'd get a lot more adopted that way.

Re: Labra-Danes

And here's some names to get them started!
