Subject: DOGS LEGISLATIVE ALERT HB 337 PUBLIC HEARING

2/6/09
Edition 4-09 Part 1
Dog Owners of the Granite State (DOGS)

2009 NH Legislative Briefing Summary
#4 Part 1 LEGISLATIVE UPDATE

ALERT ACTION NEEDED ASAP

HB 337 PUBLIC HEARING:
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 11TH AT 10:30 AM IN ROOM 208 OF THE LEGISLATIVE
OFFICEBUILDING
&n bsp;
HB 337: Requires that those selling more than one cat or dog per year to
obtain a temporary license for $25, valid for 60 days. No more than two
temporary licenses can be obtained in a year.
A copy of the bill is at:
_http://www.gencourthttp://wwwhttp://www.genchttp://www.ghttp_ (http://www.gencourt.state.nh.us/legislation/2009/HB0337.html)

Attend the public hearing to voice your opposition or send a letter to each
member of the House Environment and Agriculture Committee (see addresses and
emails below).
Voicing your opposition at the public hearing is the most effective way to
kill the bill (bring copies of your testimony so they have a written record of
your concerns).

Talking Points about why HB 337 should be killed:
- The current NH laws regarding licensing breeders and sellers as
well as the animal cruelty laws are sufficient regulation.
- It creates a new tax on cat and dog owners. A "temporary
vendor's" permit is not required to sell any other item of personal property (car,
TV, pet goat or fish, etc.).
- A similar law was enacted in Maine and they have found that the
60 day term is not sufficient. In fact, if a litter is not placed within 60
days, another permit would need to be purchased.
- The legislation creates more problems than it solves. Those who
want to avoid the requirement will advertise out of state or on the internet.

DOGS encourages members and interested parties to voice their concerns to
legislators. Legislators rarely hear from constituents who are impacted by
legislation and they need information to make voting decisions. Your experience
and concerns are valuable. Take the time to let your expertise and concerns be
known to legislators at a public hearing, a subcommittee meeting or by
sending a letter or email to legislators.
This summary of bills provides a snapshot of the viewpoints and status of
the significant bills that are being considered during the 2009 N H Legislative
Session. For assistance with obtaining the most recent version of a bill,
writing a letter or developing a statement to make at a public hearing, email

Re: NH Bill!!! I just saw this one.

Lucky for us NH residents one of the legislators that is on the committee is a good friend of mine and neighbor. I spoke to her today at the bus stop at length and she totally understands where I am coming from and is going to stop the bill from going anywhere. She has been flooded with emails from very angry dog and cat breeders!
