Why not promote a tunnel linking from the bridge to the A2/ A20 like the new A86 motorway under the Versailles Palace in Paris thereby giving the traffic somewhere to go, removing through traffic from the community and reducing severence. Traffic calming could then be promoted on local roads to reduce the attractiveness of using rat-runs.
