24/12/1969 Christmas Eve

High level Viet Cong operative killed on Song Vam Co Dong while crossing river travelling from Cu Chi to Tay Ninh. I just returned from area and it was a maze of branches and streams of main river. Closest hamlet An Thoi. 8 clicks E of Trang Bang and then 2 N. His daughter has been trying to find out the facts of the death. He was travelling with about 20 guards and preceeded by one boat to act as point/scout. Then began to cross and in middle of river large spotlights turned on by 3 boats. Call for surrender (Vietnamese?), VC guards opened fire. Americans responded. Three VC boats appeared to be destroyed with all on board. Ambush/Phoenix/???? Any leads, contacts, links greatly appreciated.

The VC boats were like long canoes. Gent in question was found by riverbank a few days later and buried at site. Found in 1969 by use of a psychic!!! Forensically checked out.
