Finding someone close by for support

hi everyone

The Facebook site mentioned by Jo and others has some parts that are not dependent on joining facebook and could be very helpful for those of you on here looking for support (in the UK).
Kay Mawson is the mum who set this up and you can find her on UK TV via YouTube search - where her and her son were interviewed.

There is a section (click on link below) where she has set up a terrific site for finding those who live close to you. When you enter details it is flagged on the map of UK and you can see who is nearby. The list is not long yet - but already you can see some similar groupings.

There is also a Poll - something that could be useful for further insight or understanding of school refusal in the future. It would be good if we all took the poll and supported the Facebook site in some way even if, like me, you are opposed to Facebook. I will resist for as long as it takes!! To me it is opening my window to the world - privacy is never guaranteed on the net - although I can see great advantages of a Facebook group for something like School Refusal.

The website - that links to Facebook.

But please come back and chat on the Forum.... : )

Re: Finding someone close by for support

Thank you Linda.

I have added this to the list of resources on our website as it might indeed be useful to those who enjoy Facebook style correspondence.

I have not joined myself as I am a bit concerned about confidentiality and I know my daughter would not want to find herself mentioned there! She was home at the weekend, and seemed quite cheery.

Re: Finding someone close by for support

Hi Simon and Linda

I totally understand your view on Facebook, but as we have seen it can be put to good use in getting together like minded individuals who might otherwise never get the opportunity to meet, even if it is only on the internet. And rest assured I will not be putting my sons name down for all to read. I will look into the group/area idea, meanwhile if there is anyone else out there in the UK who would also like to chat, get in contact with me. First point of contact through this forum.

Few bad, and many good days to you all
Heather

Ooops! Didn't mean to appear negative about FB. It is a wonderful resource when used carefully. Horrible when abused. Like a lot of other sites.
