Flexi-school Arts Provision for school refusers in oxfordshire

Hello,

OYAP Trust is an arts charity based in Oxfordshire and we have seen how hard some Young people find school. It is for this reason that we've set up Kick Arts.

Thanks to the Heritage Lottery Fund we are working with the Pitt Rivers Museum in Oxford for our fourth cohort of Kick Arts, an accredited arts programme for school refusers and vulnerable learners, particularly those who have an interest in different forms of creativity and like art.

The Kick Arts Programme has been both piloted and tested over the last three years and has proven to be a successful intervention. Providing expert art tuition, facilitating creative thinking and cultural & historical exploration we nurture a safe-space from which a small group of 12 young people make high-quality art over 15 sessions. Kick Arts culminates in a group exhibition.

Re: Flexi-school Arts Provision for school refusers in oxfordshire

Thank you for the information, Carmen. What a wonderful program!
I would be curious to know how many 'school refusers' attend such a worthwhile program. For them it is not disengaging from school but a genuine fear that stops them and can stop them participating in community based activities like your own. It is ideal, however, so if anyone reading your info who lives near there has a school refuser, it might be worth getting in touch. Are there other similar groups in other parts of the country?
