My uncle, Walter Collis Payton, was a seaman 1st class on the original USS Pillsbury which was damaged in Manila when a neighboring ship was bombed (Dec. 1941). Nine men went missing including him. The Navy "reluctantly" listed him as dead, but no remains were found. Capture by the Japanese was never ruled out. There was a possible sighting of him after the war. His family would like to hear from anyone who knew him or has any idea what happened to him.
