New Picture

Now that is a picture worth remembering. Especially with Captain Johnstone pointing, explaining a maneuver.
The officer in the back, immediately to the right of the Captain is LT. Herman Rosenburg. He was Engineer when I was on the boat. Great guy to work for too.

Re: New Picture

I remember Rosenberg as a full LT. Did he make it after the Med trip, or is this another senior moment ?

Re: Re: New Picture

I think your right. I believe he was a mustang. I don't know what rate. Captain Johnstone was a mustang. Was discharged from the Navy June 18,1947 as a Yeoman Third.

Re: New Picture

Thanks Frenchy, I completely overlooked that!

I was PROUD to have been QUALIFIED by Rosenburg when we arrived in PORTSMOUTH ENGLAND in OCT of 1964. He kept me and Troch "at it" from around 2100 until the sun came up. I got through on my first attempt.

Herman Eldon Rosenburg, 67, of Creek Trail, died Oct. 15, 1995. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Arlington National Cemetery. Swindell Funeral Home in charge."
From the Virginian-Pilot.

Re: Re: New Picture

I remember LT. Rosenburg as a full LT. He might have made LT. while I was on board, I can't remember.
Also can't remember who requalified me on Sea Robin. I think it was pretty quick because I came off another Portsmouth boat just like her.

Re: Re: Re: New Picture

Was LT Sminkey the CHENG then?

Followed by Rosenburg, Stoodt?

Re: Re: Re: Re: New Picture

I believe you have it right. LT. Sminkey was Eng when I came aboard and in the Med in 63. I'm pretty sure Rosenburg relieved him. I know Stoodt was Eng in the yard at Portsmouth because he and the Ship's Superintendent didn't get along. I was in A Gang and got in the middle of that mess a couple of times. Things get a little confusing to me sometimes. I served on 5 boats.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: New Picture

According to an on-line bio I just read, Sminkey left Sea Robin in Jan 1963 just as you left for the MED.

I wonder who relieved him as CHENG?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: New Picture

I don't think that's right. I believe Lt. Sminkey qualified me on the way back from the May of 63, but I wouldn't want to bet my life on it.I do know it wasn't Lt. Rosenberg. There were a couple of others that qualified with me. I don't remember who they were.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: New Picture

I`m going to give it a shot,I think your looking for LT. Schriver.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: New Picture

Ed, I think you win the prize.

LT Norm Shriver

I've heard he was a nice guy, but I'm pretty sure he had left before I arrived.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: New Picture

LT. Shriver made the 63 med trip with us but I can`t remember when he left the boat.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: New Picture

I think you've got it. It was Lt. Shriver. He was the one who gualified me on the way back from the med. I knew the otther name wasn't quite right but couldn't remember the right one. He was a nice guy.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: New Picture

Yup, I believe it was Shriver. I told you I had old timers disease, or is it C.R.S.
