Message Book with WWII Sea Robin story

I am this year, 3/4 century old. I recall most vividly, my encounter with my brother, Jimmy W. Lacy's crewmates in Houston, TX at the rundown of WW II. I was 11 years old. The Sea Robin had come into port at Galvestion, TX for repair. Her crew was given shore duty. Our home became their home in Texas. My Mom cooked and generally kept up with these wonderful guys. The Houston Post newspaper sent a reporter out every day and at least one time my brother an/or some of his crewmates made the front page! Mom would not allow liquor in the house and so I had the "Duty" to check it in at the door. My job ended around 10:00. My brother told me to put a cup by the checkout counter. The tips were great!
Mom was a good cook and lots of fun was had by all at meal time. In return the Captain of the Sea Robin invited Mom to a special dinner on board the Sea Robin. Such an honer!
My brother had exact copies of his uniform(whites, complete with Dolphins), made for my little sister(Jeannie) and I in Hawaii. Did we ever look sharp! He was a good brother and I am certain that he was a good sailor. I miss him still and recall with great fondness the men of the Sea Robin.

Beyttye Bob Lacy.

Re: Message Book with WWII Sea Robin story

Thanks bob for the update: The Sea Robin always a good boat and it is good to hear that it all started back then. With that kind of reputation we had to keep it a good boat to serve on.Thanks again

Re: Message Book with WWII Sea Robin story

I WENT ON LEAVE RIGHT AFTER THE PARADE WHICH I WILL NEVER FORGET AND WHEN LEAVE WAS OVER CAUGHT UP WITH THE BOAT IN NEW LONDON.I RECALL DURING BULL SESSIONS SOME OF THE CREW TALKING ABOUT THIS FAMILY THAT TREATED THEM AS FAMILY AND THE GOOD OLD HOME COOKING. THEY TALKED ON HOW THEY GOT THE COOK FROM THE BOAT TO FURNISH HAMS AND PLENTY OF STEAKS, BUTTER AND ANYTHING THAT WASHARD TO GET.

Re: Re: Message Book with WWII Sea Robin story

Chuck, thanks for filling in the event. Sounds like Sea Robin party was conducted. Good for all concerned!

I did a little online research and located an obit for Lacy's wife Marion, who passed away in 1997. She was originally married to Lacey's brother who was killed in Europe during the Battle of the Bulge. Marion and Jimmy had 4 children together.

Lacy became a cattle rancher and Sailed On Eternal Patrol on 5/19/1993 in Brownwood TX. I have not located an obit for him yet.

I'd love to find a crewmember that stayed with the family then.

Sailor, Rest Your Our.
