GASTOn E. GAUTHIER ETM1/c 1944-45 REST YOUR OAR

My father, Gaston Gauthier, passed away last night at the age of 86. He was a very proud member of the crew and of the the U.S. Navy from 1943-1945 and served 3 war patrols on the Sea Robin where he was a plank owner. My dad was an electricians mate who worked on the radar equipment in the sub.

He wished that his remaining war memorabilia be donated to the Silversides museum in Muskegon, Mi. We visited that fine boat last Memorial Day and enjoyed the lost boat ceremony. He was very thrilled that we could all tour the boat with him to see a boat like he had served upon. When they started the Diesel engines of the Silversides, it brought a fine smile to his face.

I'm not sure who to notify, but I thought he would want his shipmates to know of his passing. I know he subscribed to the national magazine, but I can't find a copy right now. I know they publish the names of those who have served and have now passed on.

Please forward this information to the correct people or let his shipmates know that he has finally rested his oars after a long, hard fight and a very fine life.

Re: GASTOn E. GAUTHIER ETM1/c 1944-45 REST YOUR OAR

I was lucky to have been able to meet Gaston and his son at our last Memorial Day service at the Silversides. He was truely a Sea Robin sailor.....you could see the "Pride" in this man to be a part our greatest force...The WWII submarine Service and a Sea Robin Shipmate.

Re: GASTOn E. GAUTHIER ETM1/c 1944-45 REST YOUR OAR

Greg,

We're so sorry to hear of the passing of your father and our SS-407 Shipmate.

I've exchanged notes with him several times over the past 10 years or so, and enjoyed the contact immensely. He truly was a PROUD member of the original crew and will be missed by all and HONORED at all of our gatherings and reunions,

I think it was not too long ago that I worked with a member of your family to assemble some pictures and mementos that were presented to him. I know he enjoyed that.

I will make the contacts to the proper people in the submarine community regarding his passing.

Please keep us informed of any funeral arrangements. We would like to send a floral arrangement in the name of the USS Sea Robin SS-407 Association.

Please extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends,

GASTON GAUTHIER
ETM1/c 1944-45
"Sailor, rest your oar"

Sincerely,

Paul Roggemann
