Jebing's hearing problem

Sometime back Jebing was asking shipmates if they remember an event on the Robin that he beleived cause him significant hearing loss. (1) Does anyone remember that request ? and (2) Does anyone know whether or not he got his hearing aids?

Re: Jebing's hearing problem

Goody,

I'm not sure what the outcome of that was. Ray called me at the time, and was asking me about stuff that I can't recall at this time. I could not provide any help other that provide him with information on hos to contact some of our shipmates that might be able to help.

Re: Jebing's hearing problem

Thanks for getting back to me Paul. Copying all that Fox that included severe static bursts during North Atlantic storms did my hearing in. I have some that are at least 15 years old and only one of them still works. A new set is $6,500.00.

Re: Jebing's hearing problem

Goody,
I talked to Ray Jebing a couple years ago on his hearing and wrote a letter for him on his ear problems.
Don't know if he got hearing aids through the VA or not. He did say at that time the VA told him they had a cap on how much a person makes as to if they will do anything for you or not. I believe he said he made too much to apply for benefits.
I have hearing aids and got them through the REAC, Retired At Cost Program at the local Naval Hospital. It's for retired service members though. I have had them for 3 years or so and they work well.

Re: Jebing's hearing problem

Goody:
I have hearing loss also, I guess it was a result of our job. I have aids that I bought a few years ago. they work fair, the newer ones are much better according to a neighbor who paid about 6 grand for hers. I have not tried to the va yet, but I hear they will supply them. Of what quality I don't know. Let me know how you make out with the VA. I may try them too

Re: Jebing's hearing problem

GOOD LUCK ON THE VETS. I GOT SO MUCH RUN AROUND I SAID THE HELL WITH IT. THE WIFE ALSO NEEDED THEM SO WE JUST DID WHAT WE HAD TO DO. WE BOUGHT TWO PAIR AT 5300. PER PAIR [OTICON] SURE IS NICE NOT HAVING TO KEEP SAYING "UH" ALL THE TIME

Re: Jebing's hearing problem

Yea Chuck, that's what I'll probably wind up doing. Can't really afford it now though...Any Radioman that's spent time at Sea during your's and my era will tell you that copying FOX in foul weather with copious amounts of thunder and lightning can be pretty debilitating to One's ears....

Re: Jebing's hearing problem

I am here with my Dad, Raymond Jebing who is doing well and hearing great thanks to the hearing aids that the VA covered for him at 100%. He is also getting coverage for prescriptions through the VA and a few other services. He also said he said to let you know he gets about $250 disability pension per month from the VA. He did say you would need to have an act of God to get the hearing aids but he eventually got them (some luck was involved I believe). He had to go to a non navy audiologist along with submit letters that were written by men from this group as well as they had to retrieve letters from the Navy. Again, act of God but obtainable.
